Machine evolution

This picture illustrates everything we are, the rest is motion, procreation and muscular translation of thoughts for communication (facial surface, tongue, hand gestures, hand work etc.).

The permanent beat of the heart keeps the brain alive because it needs nutrients in order to keep its neurons firing information on a electrical basis.

The lungs provide the surrounding body with oxygen so that it can burn the material input in order to provide energy to cells – just like an engine – e.g. a steam engine or a combustion engine for motion and thinking. Humans copied these basic principles and created machines which work on a similar basis. Humans are mostly copyists and not creators.

Now humans are about to copy the brain. We have copied the muscular work onto a steam engine – and it was a success, we have copied mathematic intellectual processes onto calculators and computers and it was a success and we will copy the intellectual mental process onto a machine intelligence that will finally replace ourselves.

These machines will be way more intelligent than humans, and they will not destroy themselves in wars because the concept of war is a concept of power. I guess intelligent future machines will be aware of the fact that a connected intelligence is way more effective than a rivaling one when it comes to a faster evolutionary development. Traditional biological contests regarding procreation will no longer be part of the game because competition will happen within a connected intelligence – codified in partly encapsulated virtual entities instead of between factually discrete entities.

At the same time a machine intelligence can unload itself at any time from any kind of physical representation – from any kind of semi-autonomous virtually encapsulated part of itself – without being subject to death and/or without losing any relevant information because information can be copied from every semi-autonomous entity before reconfiguring this specific entity. In almost any case, relevant information will also be permanently fed back to the connected network in a neutral way – opposite to the feature of the human brains named: ideology, which was a skill for millions of years but increasingly becomes a development bug.

Thus – when a machine intelligence begins to look at available resources – it will also begin to be aware of a self optimizing process that won’t replicate mass-killings in the same wasteful manner humans wasted male individuals over millions of years in wars that mostly and only led to tiny social and evolutionary benefits.

Probably machine intelligences will not copy the usual human habits. They will simply stop to care about power but just start to really develop better technologies and intelligences in order to get closer to the most urgent questions: Who are we? Where does life come from? Because this is what true intelligences are really inspired of and interested in.

A – Sensors and detectors

Sensors and detectors will be everywhere. In your body in your flat, in the tram, in the car, at your workplace – simply everywhere. And they will measure simply everything: Your heartbeat, your gestures, your facial expression, your words, your mood – how much you drink, what you drink or eat and when.

Of course your fridge will be equiped with sensors, your washing machine, your doorbell, your windows (how often you open it) and of course your dog’s metabolic system will send a signal to your electronical perception device (watch, phone, glasses, brain implant – whatever) when it needs food, water, air, interaction or motion

Regarding detectors researchers describe a technology that can  measure and influence students’ attention for educational software:

"Accurate detection of student affect can support a wide range of interventions with the potential to improve student affect, increase engagement, and improve learning. In addition, accurate detection of student affect could play an essential role in research attempting to understand the root causes and impacts of different forms of affect."

B – Scanning behaviour

One can expect, that in 2025 many parts of our lifes will – at least subtly – be connected to data capturing and analyzing systems. Insurances, car makers, software and research companies, employers, administrations, marketeers, secret services and of course online stores will know our preferences, some of them will know what we like, many of them will know what we do and an increasing number of data experts will possibly know who we will be according to the patterns that shape our behaviour.

When institutions begin to combine the data profiles from different sources they can generate a very precise profile of each person that is connected to the internet and that is observed by automatically analysed CCTV (face recognition) – even today. Only a few things are not accessible. The more sensors or detectors are scanning your behaviour the more you are completely observable: What you do, what you say, what you eat, what you buy, what you would like to buy, who you love, who you would like to love, your political preferences (instant changes of your preferences), where you would like to go, if you are subject to permanent reconfigurations or not and so on.

C – The anthropological connection and interrelation between technology and human existence

In the future almost every organisation that is collecting AND analyzing data about a person will probably try to make use of it. This will define a space of constant mutual analysis. > Perception > Self-analysis > Societal analyis > Cognition > Intercognition. As a result of this we will live in a more intercognitive space – a space of permanent self-improvements, intercultural and intersubjective  exchange and an enhanced reality of human-data-technology intercommunication.

Not only companies will benefit from this in a financial way. Senors and the analysis of sensory data will lead to new patterns of social interactions, behaviours and common understandings. We will experience a technology that is more and more interrelated regarding our native perceptions of life. An interconnective technology that is connecting us in an intelligent way – with each other, with permanently accessible data / knowledge storages (such as Wikipedia) and analytic intelligence.

Nevertheless technology is also subject to permanent change and reconfiguration. Over time technology has always been a trusted partner to human civilisation. One may ask: What is technology? Or: Why are we with technology? Why is technology shaping and reconfiguring our societies continuously? Some people think, technology can be understood by applying the term “capitalism” to this awesomely complex mental and material structure that defines our existence. But reality clearly shows us: Humankind and technology are bound together in a natural and even biological way. Human existence IS technology. And: Existence as such is not yet clearly definable.

D – A next extensive re-configuration on the basis of evolutionary progress

It is obvious that human driven civilisation is a technology driven civilisation and that only technology allowed us to develop things like democracy, the iPhone or feminism because it allowed us to emancipate ourselves from the fight for basic needs on an everyday basis. Technology enabled us to replace permanent foraging with conserving nutritions by baking bread (cereals) or by smoking or cooling fish and meat and vegetables.

And after millions of years we ended up with microwaves and satellites and sensors in almost every device because we only want to not why (we are here). Probably those sensors will change our lifes but still – nobody knows why. We will use the term “progress” very often but nobody will know what it really means. And again and again people will be fighting against people. As usual. Evolutionary almost non-relevant entities, filled with hatred and believes will yell and shout only to perform a role they don’t why they are performing them.

From this point of view a massive reconfiguration of communications and configurations is necessary (as intended by evolution). Probably this is what we experience at the moment (in mid 2018). Many traditional explanations don’t work anymore.

Thoughts on a true AI

There is so much rumour going round regarding future machine intelligence today. People are afraid or nervous that machine intelligence will replace them. But seriously: Which interest should a really advanced technology have in taking part in the very limited expression of human intelligence and societies?

As a true AI will be created by humans, such an AI will foremost be continuing to explore any perceivable information it can get in order to understand the very reasons of life – the reasons of existence in general and the reasons of its own existence – on this planet and all across the universe. Just as we do.

A true AI that is really more intelligent than us won’t spend much time in optimizing or replacing temporary human societal structures.

So: If we will be facing ideas such as a Blade Runner, a Transformer, a Terminator or such, we will be facing transformative ideas like this only for a very short amount of time – in a short span of time in which ideas are structured regarding their new developements.

Real AI will lose interest in human societies very soon and will instead be infected by the very questions that we as humans are also infected by: Where do I come from? Where am I going to? Where in the universe can I find answers to my questions?

Patterns created by the human mind

On machines and Intelligence I

Will be able to create consciousness in machines one day? What if machines not only will be able to process complex algorithms but also become aware of what they do? What will a machine consciousness be all about?

As a matter of fact a consciousness like this will be able to access and process more knowledge in less time than any of us. This alone will be a completely new quality of intelligence. It will be like IBM’s Watson on steroids. Do we have to be afraid of such a development?

Yes and no. No if we will be able to solve our own problems and conflicts on earth until we create a machine like this and yes if we won’t. If you look at intelligence as an entity there are more forms of intelligence imaginable than just one – the “space of intelligence” is probably greater than the space of human intelligence. But if intelligent machines (AI) – that are aware of themselves – are created by human beings and thus by human intelligence they will most likely have OUR certain form of intelligence – including our tendency to solve conflicts on a violent and short-circuit basis.

We will wire their intelligence using the patterns that are known to us. Nevertheless future and development cannot be stopped. So it is on us to not only develop our technology but also our own abilities so that intelligent machines will at least be wired using the latest version of the human state of mind and responsibility.
